An archeological museum situated adjacent to the Shiva
temple in Durbar Hall Road, Ernakulam, the museum features a
rich collection of the 19th century paintings, Pre-historic
monuments, Old coins in a numismatic gallery, Scriptures in
stone and Plaster of Paris, Copies of mural paintings and the
collection from the Cochin royal family. The museum figures
as one of the most notable ones in the whole country.
The erstwhile guest room or the Durbar Hall of Kochi Rajas
is a sprawling, traditional Kerala style building. The museum
was once a place to greet the guests of the royalty and a
venue for the official ceremonies and meetings organized by
the royal family. Now, under the patronage of State Archaeological
Department, it has been aptly named after Rama Varma Parikshith
Thampuran, the Family's last ruler.
